3D Printing Challenge

3D Printing Challenge

Tech Bar Challenge #2 is completed, and I would like to reflect on the challenge and the steps needed for my beautiful ghost keychain print and the honorable mention: Fred the Frog.

Finding the Print

The hardest part of this challenge was finding the print not because of the size issue but because I just didn’t feel like I needed to print something. Also because I was indecisive on how the challenge would play out, and while I scaled the challenge down I still couldn’t decide what to print. So I had 2 print options and I decided whichever I liked at the end would be the print the one I would decide.

Printing the Print

Now this one was really easy, especially because I am someone who kind of knows what colors to choose from. For one print, which disqualified it as my final print it printed “weirdly”. But the color change actually looked pretty nice, given the restriction I put on it being a one part print. for the other print, it printed really nice and I was a little hesitant using the glow in the dark filament, knowing it’s other issues from previous printings I’ve done. Both took about 26 minutes, and with that I’ve been able to move onto the next step: pictures. I think if I did this frog print with a black mask/gloves instead (and also if the supports near the other side didn’t alter the print’s look) I would’ve chosen this one instead.

The picture of my final print

This might’ve been the most difficult step for me but also…not. Since I work until 6:00 on Mondays I was able to do a nightly photoshoot with minimal natural light affecting the print. Afterwards, I decided that this ghost keychain needed some edits to really portray my vision. While my print wasn’t really spooky I wanted to really show that it’s Halloween and I love how my picture turned out. It has a subtle color shift, you can see the print lines. I’m very happy with the result, and if I could change something about the print, I would’ve had a fabric to make it not look like a table (or just something different for a scene).
