Over the last two nights, two of my favorite artists (twenty one pilots and Glass Animals) preformed on the late night Jimmy shows (Fallon and Kimmel respectively). Glass Animals preformed on the 18th, and twenty one pilots the 19th. Both sang songs from their newest albums, which I have reviewed but there’s something magical about them preforming on these late night shows. Glass Animals, on July 18th preformed on Jimmy Fallon their album opener. But, it’s not about “Show Pony” but instead the two artists preforming over the last two nights.
Glass Animals and Jimmy Kimmel

As far as I’ve seen this is the first time that Glass Animals has preformed on Jimmy Kimmel. As mentioned previously, they preformed on Jimmy Fallon for “Show Pony” but previously they preformed on Fallon the song “Heat Waves”.
Personally, I love seeing Glass Animals preform. When I saw them in Toronto it was amazing, and the performance on Fallon was also amazing. Bayley always wear fantastic clothes and this one is no exception. The black jacket with space themed patches with a black button up shirt looked really fantastic. It changes from the look Bayley has been wearing for the tour and “A Tear in Space (Airlock)” of the wife beater with a black turtleneck underneath and brown plaid slacks. But, the space themed clothing is really on brand for Glass Animals and then Ed, Drew and Joe in their fancy suits which also in brand.
One of my favorite aspects of “Creatures in Heaven” is the harmonization. It was the same in Toronto as it was two nights ago, and the harmonization between Dave and Drew is just amazing. I love that harmonization because it’s super subtle but adds depth to the song. I appreciated this performance for not just the harmonization but the visual aspect (specifically the eyeball) that was also used in their concert performance. It solidifies the symbolism that has been prevalent in not just their merchandise, but their music videos and live performance. These aspects seemed meticulously picked and it’s something to appreciate.
twenty one pilots and Jimmy Fallon

Unlike Glass Animals, twenty one pilots has done a mix of live performances on both Kimmel and Fallon. The last time they preformed on a Jimmy show was Kimmel in 2022 for “The Outside”. But, there has been a trend that whenever Jimmy Fallon has had twenty one pilots as a live performance that he always makes a face. Even twenty one pilots reposted the original meme when it came to their 2015 album Blurryface. This was done during their “Clancy World Tour”, similar to how Glass Animals is on their “Tour of the Earth”. Of course, my show isn’t until October so I cannot fully compare the two shows until then but I can still analyze the live performance because it was very different from Glass Animals performance.
The live performance uses similar colors as the music video in black, and red but uses a lot of techniques to pull off illusions that are difficult to do in one shot but the band managed to do it. They go around the studio, starting from Jimmy’s desk, going around the studio in the music area and random hallways before returning to the main studio. My two favorite moments are where Joseph yells “Jimmy” in such a different way (pronounced like Jimm-ahy), then the fog on the stage and once Joseph finishes singing and is sitting down he does a little cheer. Both Jimmy and Joseph have that energy but Joseph’s energy is contagious. I really liked it how they kept with the theme of their video and integrated the lyrics with their performance.
The Live Performances
Glass Animals performed their first single from the album, while twenty one pilots chose a song that fans predicted that if twenty one pilots released it as a single would’ve been on the radio. The contrast in performances really shows the creative freedom the band chose to have, with twenty one pilots choosing to go all out but Glass Animals went for that simplistic space performance. It could be due to how the popularity of the bands are but it is just interesting in general. I was happy with these performances and I’m excited to see twenty one pilots in October.
