Today is Valentine’s Day, and while I already talked about love songs today is also the day of Saint Motel’s newest album: Symphony in the Sky. We got the first single for the album all the way back in May 2023. But after about a year in a half we finally got the newest album “Symphony in the Sky”. Unlike other bands, who I’ve covered their latest albums, Saint Motel did not have a listening party but they did have a evening livestream that sadly I missed.
Weeks before Symphony in the Sky

To begin, there was an interesting story that occurred a few weeks before the album was released. There was a mini story where AJ Jackson, the lead singer was leaking the songs. First was purposeful, then the second one was “accidental” and then AJ got arrested due to the police not believing that a dog ran into a field with leaked music playing, then AJ was able to post bail due to it. While not a complex story it was more fun just to see it unfold. But, with already one third of the songs being released from the album I was fine without the leaks but it’s a nice change of pace compared to twenty one pilots where people are always trying to leak the newest album.
The Album

The album lives up to its name. It does feel like a symphony and so much of the songs have a blue tone to them that they did a great job to it. Now, not all of the songs feel like a symphony preforms them but how I see it is that sections of the whole symphony. But, I listened to the song last night at 2300 because thank you time zones and it was amazing. It had such a night theme to it that it felt so whimsical and lunar and I loved it. Then the songs, even hearing the leaks (which were only clips) they were amazing. I think my favorite might be “Hold my Place in Heaven” or “Low Earth Orbit” but all of them are amazing.
The one downside that the album has is that it is very short. Clocking in at 39 minutes for 12 songs is very short. But, this is also an advantage because none of the songs seem like they’re overstaying their welcome. I do think some of them like “Life’s a Gas” is exactly 2:30 and I think there can be more to it since so much of it is repeated.
Overall
I think the album is pretty good but I do love that it is living with it’s name. Saint Motel really puts thought into how they construct their album, and this shows. Even in their last album, Saint Motel the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack was split into three parts and the three parts work well to give that vibe that it is a part of a movie. So I’m excited to see them in concert because of this album.
