Imagine, it’s quarantine and the world is kind of just quiet. But, in May you hear a song from Foster the People. Yes, the same band that wrote “Pumped up Kicks” but it was a different song, a more softer one. Sure they wrote a quarantine song like everyone else but this new song, was like their previous singles. Different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fast forward to December 2020 and they announce a EP. Not an album, because they don’t want to go on tour but a EP. This one is about love, and how to deal with it’s multiple forms. Love of a family member who’s gone, familial love and the love of someone you get to spend your life with. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Album and the Aesthetic<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

When they released this song, a lot of the visualizers were purple as a central color. The band really honed in on the night theme and the purple, and honestly they did it well. Like in Under the Moon it causes an imagery of a deep purples and blues as it talks about two people separated and the moon is the only thing both can see while being so far away, but even then they’re still together. In The Things We Do it’s more reminiscent of earlier Foster the People so it uses the bright purples of a pop song, as well as the use of auto tune (which, honestly was used a bit excessively).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But, one of my favorites Cadillac utilizes a good night sound. Specifically, with the bass as for one it’s also reminiscent of Pumped Up Kicks. While there is some similarities to their older music, it still has a new spin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024 and the state of Foster the People<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

As of 2021 the drummer (Mark Pontius) left the band leaving only Mark Foster as the original singer from 2009. As of late, they have released new merch for the summer ’23 season but no news from that. After their torches 10 year anniversary the band has been silent.
